Football - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is eligible to play football?
A: All participants (boys and girls) who meet the age/grade requirements.

Q: What determines which team my child will participate on?
A: Team placement is determined primarily based on grade. A complete outline of the team schematic is available under the Football Tab.

Q: What organization is Monroe Lions affiliated with?
A: Monroe Lions is part of the Shoreline Youth Football and Cheer League. 

Q: What is the time commitment to play football for Monroe Lions?
A: In order to ensure player's safety, a significant amount of practice time is required to play football.  Monroe Lions football practice begins the first Monday in August.  Practices during the first two weeks of August are held Monday through Thursday.  The Monroe Lions recognizes that this is also a time of year when many families vacation.   Please communicate to your Head Coach if you have any vacation or family commitments. No player is ever penalized for family commitments or vacations.  Practices continue three nights per week during the months of September and October, with all games being played on the weekend. 

Q: Where are the Monroe Lions' practices and games held?
A: Practices and Home Games are held at Wolfe Park. 

Q: What is the deadline for registering for Monroe Lions Football?
A: Registrations will be accepted until August 1st unless a special circumstance exists and approval is granted by the Monroe Lions BOD.  Team sizes are limited, however, to a maximum of 36 players and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Q: Do I have to buy all of the equipment?
A: Monroe Lions supplies each football player a helmet, shoulder pads, girdle pads and practice and game uniforms.  You will be responsible for supplying the other necessary items.  These items include long red and black game socks, a cup, girdle, rib pads, mouth guard and football cleats.  Other optional items include arm pads, receiving gloves, equipment bag, etc.
